In rendering plants poultry and meat by-products not fit for human consumption are processed into valuable products. These by-products are usually heat treated and thermally dewatered. The vapours released by the dewatering need to be condensed and further treated for odour control. Usually these vapours are sent to an air cooled condenser, while residual incondensables are further treated in a biobed or a thermal oxidizer. The excess heat is then released as vapour into the atmosphere.

Blue Heat has developed a special system to recover the heat from the vapour through condensation. This Blue Tower system fully recovers the heat and releases it into boiler water at >95°C. Capacities range from a few 100 kW to 5 MW and up.
